![]() During the past 5 years, we have been trying to make sense of the over 5,000 soil fungal isolates that have arrived at our laboratory. In FungiAlert’s laboratory we know this from first-hand experience. 270 years later, we are not closer to an answer. In my opinion, it is a great book that triggers your imagination and makes you question fundamental philosophical and biological principles of life.Ĭarl Linneaus, the Swedish botanist who in 1751 formulated the modern taxonomic system wrote: “The Order of Fungi is still a Chaos, a scandal of art, no botanist knowing what a Species is and what is a Variety”. It also describes how this magical, undermined and neglected kingdom of life has shaped our planet and our society. This beautifully written book encapsulates the state of the art of our understanding of fungi. ![]() ![]() ![]() It gave me the same feeling of inquisitiveness that I felt when I embraced the discipline of microbiology during my undergraduate studies. I have recently finished reading “Entangled Life” by Merlin Sheldrake, regrettably, as it has opened my curiosity like no other book in recent years. ![]()
